Any Reason
Poem written for someone not feeling well
Lexie
I’m always trying to lose some weight
Not happy how I am
I’m sure some of you can relate
Bought into the “something’s wrong here” scam
The other day I grabbed an orange
Wishing it were chocolate cake instead
And then I stopped and thought of her
Lying in that hospital bed
Lying there, fighting her fight
Wanting one sweet simple thing
A piece of fruit to bite and swallow
And all the joy that would bring
I slowly peeled that bright orange ball
Savoring that first citrus scent
I felt the juice run down my hands
Didn’t care which way it went
I took a bite and really tasted
How good an orange can be
I ate it for her because she couldn’t
I ate it for Lexie
